Why I Can't Support Obama...and will do what I can to keep him from being elected

I don't love everything about McCain myself. But, I feel that many of Obama's opinions are downright dangerous. Maybe with McCain we would get more of the same in some areas. But change is only good if it's GOOD CHANGE! Here are my reasons that I cannot and will not support Obama in any way:

-He doesn't seem to understand that there are evil people in the world. Islamic terrorists WANT TO KILL AMERICANS. You can't make deals with people who are evil. They lie. And then they kill more people.

-If Obama is elected, he WILL tax small businesses. He says it's only businesses that make over $250,000. Um, those ARE small. My dad's business only supports three people...barely. And that affects us, personally. Do we seem wealthy to you? Have you been to our house and seen the cars we drive? Obama talks about McCain not having a concept of how normal people live. Well, we are normal middle class, the people Obama claims he's trying to help. His taxes would drastically affect us.

-Taking more taxes from people who make lots of money and giving it to poor people never works. That's called Socialism/Communism. There's a reason poor people are poor, and it's because they don't know how to manage money, and/or they don't or can't work hard. That doesn't mean you give them handouts and their lives get better. Jesus even told the disciples they would always have the poor with them. Yes, we should be compassionate and help care for their needs, but that's not the government's job - it's the job of individual citizens. The government trying to do that job will only foul things up. FORCING people to care for those less fortunate will not make them more compassionate and generous.

-Healthcare...the problem with healthcare is twofold: ridiculous lawsuits that drive up the price of practicing medicine and therefore of receiving care, and the fact that drug companies control everything medical-related in this country. Fix those two things, the price of insurance plummets, and voila'! people can afford healthcare again. The government taking over health insurance is treating a symptom of a problem. Plus, if you are under government healthcare, do you think you're going to be able to decide when/if you want to have a certain test or vaccine or medication? Why would you be able to do that? They will want to cover their tail and make sure you never have an "unnecessary" illness. You will have to get every test in the book, every vaccine, every medication they prescribe. I guarantee it. If it doesn't happen right away, it will.

-Obama has talked about encouraging teachers who do well, and helping teachers who don't teach well to find another line of work. OK, where do I even start with this one? We've all had terrible teachers. But what he's talking about is giving the federal government power to decide which teachers go and which teachers stay. Isn't that the job of school administrators? If that's not their job, what is? This kind of rhetoric sounds awesome - like it would fix some of the things that private citizens just can't seem to fix. But in reality, it gives the federal government a HUGE amount of input into my everyday life. Recently there was a bill in Congress that would have required government employees to go to every house where there was a child under the age of 5, to "teach" the parents how to parent. This is so scary. I have nothing to be ashamed of, but I'm also not a robot. Who decides the standards by which we raise our children - the parents, or the government? I believe based on his beliefs about other things, that Obama would support a bill like this. I have no proof, but I don't want to find out.

People, the economy is in bad shape. The current President has nothing to do with that. Economic geniuses have been explaining for months that the culture of debt in this country would eventually catch up with us. We have to live on what we make, simple as that. The Republicans or the Democrats did not do this to us, we did it to ourselves by spending more money than we had. It should have no bearing on who we vote for.

The war is a terrible, terrible thing. War always is. But we don't know all the details of what led our leaders to make the decisions they did. They carry a burden we will never understand. Treating people who are evil in their every intention as if they are logical, reasonable people will not work - they don't behave in logical, reasonable ways. McCain, just like Obama, will not make all right decisions. He's human. He's not God. But he understands that evil exists. Obama can't even bring himself to say that.

I don't know if this will change anyone's mind about anything. But I feel it's time for me to say it. So many of Obama's ideas sound great until you follow them to their logical conclusion. Change isn't worth that.

Note: We're headed out for family time this afternoon, and tomorrow is my Sabbath, so I'm closing comments. Thanks, everyone.

  2. Okay Sara...I love you and I sooo do not want to debate this with you.
But I suggest you visit Factcheck.org

I think part of what you say is true and I think part of what you say is grossly exaggerated smear produced by the republican party.

Factcheck.org clears up what is true and what is smear.

One last thing...beware. You have opened up a can of worms. I was eviserated with anonomoyus comments when I said that Sarah Palin needs to focus on her family. This post is far more inflamatory than that.

  3. Christina - based on what I found on factcheck, I took down the abortion issue. But I believe the rest of it stands - it is my own conclusion drawn from what I have heard Obama himself say. I know I'm opening a can of worms. I already do not allow anonymous comments. And it's my blog, so I can let it go as far as I want and then end it. But if I can change the opinion of even one person, it's worth it to me.

  5. Thank you Sara! Well said, I agree with you 100% and totally support your view on this. You're brave, and are capitalizing on our privilege of free speech. Go, girl! We should all be this outspoken about the truth...

  6. Sara,
I want to applaud your efforts to educate you readers.

I know how difficult it is to make a stand about "politics" today because of the fear of the back lash that will always come. I've seen first hand some nasty comments Christians can leave in the name of "judge not lest you be judged". Most people who use this verse do not understand the context in which it was spoken by Jesus to the Pharisees who judged everyone based on their outward actions. God will judge the heart.

That said, I would encourage you to put back your stance on abortion in this post. I have publicly taken up educating Christians about abortion procedures and statistics and although it's gotten me some pretty negative reaction, I have also had friends and family tell me they had no idea late term abortion existed at all nor that some states allow women of any age to obtain an abortion without parental consent.

The only way some people will know these practices exist is by reading something their friend looked up and put in a concise little blog article.

Keep up the good work, don't be discouraged!

BTW, based on our current Precept study on Biblical Kings and Prophets, my friend Jesica said she has started praying that Obama's advisors will give him such foolish council as to lead to his downfall.

    2 Samuel 15:31
Now someone told David, saying, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom " And David said, "O LORD, I pray, make the counsel of Ahithophel foolishness."

  7. I forgot, I was going to leave a link to a YouTube post that a friend of mine found after her husband told her he didn't believe the "stories" about Obama voting against the Born Alive Protection act. Now he believes.

  8. Laura - What I said about abortion was regarding the Born Alive Act, and I do not have enough time today to research the entire issue and get my facts right. That's why I took it down. It was by no means because I didn't want to take a stand in that area. :)

So, dear readers, for information specifically on the abortion issue, see: http://laurashewmaker.blogspot.com/

  9. My dear Sara, thank you. I have a draft sitting on my blog regarding this very subject, but you have put it so much more eloquently.

I would just like to point out that despite its claims, FactCheck.org is not at ALL a bipartisan/neutral source to be trusted with what is considered "true". It is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, founded by Walter Annenberg. They sponsored the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.

Do you know who helped write the grant proposals for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge?

Bill Ayers. (The CAC claims there is no record of providing salary to the Mr. Ayers.)

Do you know was on the founding board of directors?

    Barack Obama.

Critical thinking, right? :) I would hope that there would be some concern or questions raised over that. Know what I mean?

    Again, thank you. :)

  10. I 100% agree with you. :) Thanks for taking the time to write down your research and opinions. I hope those that read your blog can learn something from it. And thank you for sticking your neck out there where others wouldn't. You are a strong, smart woman. Like you said, if you can change even just one opinion, then it's worth it. :)

  11. From a private email from a good friend:

When we lived in Alberta we had the lovely socialized healthcare that Canada is known for...we also paid 50% of our income in taxes and still had a monthly premium payment...there's this misconception that Canadians have FREE healthcare, but no one looks at the taxes they're paying. How do people think Obama is going to fund all these programs he's planning to implement? MORE TAXES for EVERYONE.

  12. "There's a reason poor people are poor, and it's because they don't know how to manage money, and/or they don't or can't work hard."

This is simplistic statement that would seem to come from someone who has not experienced anything other than a middle class life. There are many reasons that have nothing to do with laziness or carelessness why people are or become poor. And once there, it is hard to get out. Hard work and proper money management doesn't always do the trick.

Maybe it is individuals instead of governments who are supposed to help the poor. But let me ask you this question, when was the last time you or your family helped a poor person? Did you give them a loaf of bread? Did you invest in that person's talents to help him do better? Or did you think that they did something bad to get that way and deserve to be poor. Because individuals, especially the rich, do not help the poor, it becomes the job of the government, as the agent of the people, to do so.

I'm not saying that I like Obama. But what I like less than Obama's socialist agenda is a Republican government that is going to continue to enrich the oil executives and Wall Street financiers. It's not a coincidence that the eight years Bush (an oil man) has been in office have been the best ever for the oil companies (just in the last three years alone, Americans have spent more than $500 billion dollars more for gasoline than the would have if gas prices were still the same as they were when Bush took office.) And now, in the last days of this administration, after encouraging Wall Street to play fast and loose with our money, we are strong-armed into forking over $700 billion dollars to bail them out!

With these people syphoning $1.2 trillion out of our economy (not to mention all the money put into 401k's that has now been lost), how can a person help but be poor.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Keith - Nice to "meet" you. Haven't heard from you before.

It probably is a simplistic statement. Obviously there are thousands of reasons why people become poor. I have experienced several of them either myself or through my parents, including bankruptcy and medical debt. Life is hard. I am in no way trying to downplay people's pain over finances. I have experienced plenty of it myself, and it is miserable. I am making a general statement. Surely we can agree that the vast majority of people who are "poor" have become so based on poor decisions.

As far as personally helping a poor person, we did that last week.

About your complaint on gas prices, can you explain to me how Bush affected the price of oil? It's pure supply and demand - the demand for oil is higher than it has ever been, so the price is higher than it has ever been. That is free market, not anything having to do with a political party or who is in power. The oil executives put billions of dollars of their own money into developing the infrastructure to deliver oil, and they make back their investments. Also, they pay nearly as much in payroll taxes to the U.S. as they personally make. Do you believe there is something inherently evil about making large amounts of money? Because it sounds like you believe it must be wrong if they make that much.

The bailout has nothing to do with Wall Street investments, it has to do with a bill years and years ago (under Clinton, but who's counting?) that forced banks to issue subprime mortgages because it was a "basic right that everyone should be able to own a home." So now all those people who didn't make enough money to buy houses in the first place are not paying their mortgages, and the government is having to deliver on their promise to bail out the banks when something goes wrong. That's what the bailout is about. And the $700 billion price tag makes me sick to my stomach as well. They didn't handle it the way I hoped they would, but socialism will not make it better.

Unless someone plans to retire in the next five years, the 401k's will come back. Not sure who you're referring to as "these people," or where you're getting the $1.2 trillion number.
