Oh joy, oh rapture!

Audrey's nose is not running today. I had just about given up hope that it would ever stop again.

We have been running the air purifier for two days now, and apparently it's working. I never would have guessed that this house would make my kids sick. Yuck.

I suppose maybe they haven't been contagious all this time, but for 2 1/2 months, I have felt guilty taking them anywhere. It feels like a weight has been taken off my shoulders, when I think about being able to take them to Sunday School at church again, and have people over again, and leave them with babysitters for date night again. Dr P saves the day one more time. I only wish somebody had thought of this sooner.

And according to Dr P (and Marianne!), we should not get sick if we're not eating sugar. He actually said even little kids should not get sick more than once a YEAR for 3-7 days. Think about that. That provides enough motivation for me to give up sugar. Nothing else ever has, even though I know exactly how bad it is.

OK, I'm done now.

  1. We run an air purifier in Cooper's room, he is allergic to dander. We don't have a cat anymore, it is more to be on the safe side. I am not sure how well it works--but we do it anyway.

Tuesday I took him to the grocery store and he stuck the seatbelt in his mouth--he now has a cold. GREAT

  2. We did the "give up sugar" thing about two years ago. Every once in a while we slip a little bit back in to old habits, but basically refined sugar doesn't come in the house. We use honey and turbinado (raw) sugar and fruit juice to sweeten things. It's an adjustment, but it's totally do-able. And worth it! When I am off sugar, PMS is just a distant memory (that's always encouragement for the husband to be supportive!), plus we're all just so much healtier. Sometimes my daughter will get a little runny nose for a day or two, so I know she's fighting off something, but her immune system just fights it off so well when it doesn't have the sugar hindering it. If you ever want tips or substitutions, let me know. I'm all for encouraging the sugar-fling!

  3. The hard thing is, we pretty much only use natural sweeteners already. We just eat too much of them! I am addicted to baked stuff. I have a tendency to binge on cookies - like, eat 5 of them a day. Even when they're sweetened with turbinado, that is not good and I know it. I crave it so badly though! I'm honestly not sure how much is okay and how much will compromise our immune systems.

  4. Christina - Audrey does that all the time. Actually, what she does is lean forward and put her whole mouth over the metal part. GROSS!
