Sometimes life is tough...

Last night I had another seizure. This is the 6th one since I was 14 years old. This has been a long road, but to make a long story short, I was on medication for a while, had a hard time tolerating the side effects, found Dr. P and began treating it nutritionally, had success unless I cheated on the diet, and now I've had another seizure even when I'm following the diet. This is a major problem because it means I will probably have to go back to using medication to control them. I cannot, obviously, be having seizures when I'm home alone taking care of children. There is a whole host of complications involved with medication and breastfeeding, and particularly getting pregnant and having more children, which we want. I know God has a purpose, but honestly, right now I'm devastated. I thought I had found something that works without the added problems.

I fell on the kitchen floor and banged my cheek bone and chin up pretty badly, and I look like somebody hit me. I also bit up my tongue and all my muscles are sore. I'm really hurting. Please pray for strength and wisdom for us in this time.


  1. Oh Sara... I am so sorry to hear this. It doesn't make sense and I'm sure is very hard to understand, especially since you've been doing all the right things. I will be praying that God will intervene in your situation, because I know how important nursing is to you, and the fact that you might want to have another child, and that medication isn't good for either of those situations. God knows all your concerns and hears your cries. Try to keep trusting - I know from experience here lately that it's so much easier said than done... But I believe in you! :o)

  2. I remember when I was little I used to think that you had gotten your seizures from me since I had them before you (I think?) Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about you having another seizure after not having one for so long. It certainly can come as a shock.

    My mom and I were talking about seizures today after we got a phone call from Gramma. Don't lose hope. God has this all figured out. He knows your desires, worries and concerns before you even have a chance to say so. He will come through for you and figure out a way to help you out and simotaneously protect your family. God's the greatest multitasker like that.:) I know this isn't exactly the greatest time for seizures to start happening again, but God does not shut a door without opening a window. There is no doubt an answer out there for you and God will bring it your way as long as you trust him.

    I am so terribly sorry about your seizure. I know what it is like to have medical disappointments. I to have had many different physical problems associated with my illness. I have had to go into the hospital several times. It can be frustrating at times. Just when you think things are getting under control, something happens. But always remember that God has a reason for everything that happens to us. He will take care of you and your family:) Mike and I are praying for you guys! We love you and hang in there!

  4. I just found your site and read this. How are you doing? Have you started the meds yet? I'll be praying for you! This is my verse this century and I'll share it w/ you. Lamentations 3:22-24 says "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."

  5. Nope, no meds. I'm not ready to quit nursing, so we're not going that route right now. If Audrey gets the meds in my milk she could have learning disorders and all kinds of issues. No thanks! We'll wait, especially since the nutrition thing has worked so well for so long. Before starting that program, I had a seizure only 6 months after going off the meds. Three years with no seizure was a very good sign!
