Lesson (Re)learned

I was on Facebook this morning (this was my first mistake), and came across the fiance' of a friend from college who was feeling discouraged. I tried to write something quick to encourage her, and apparently came off preachy...or over spiritual...or something, and got reamed by the next commenter. I hate when this happens. As if I'm just trying to give shallow answers... I wish this didn't bother me so much, but it does. Why is it impossible for everyone to believe that most people mean well, even if they either don't communicate well, or others disagree?

Then I read You Will Be Misunderstood and felt just a tiny bit better...but still?

  1. Sorry that happens, it sucks.
I always get my feelings hurt when other drivers honk at me or flip me off.
If I had it my way, we'd all sit down and discuss what they thought I was doing wrong....usually so I can then turn it around and show them how they are wrong, and I am right. HA! so sinful.

Anyhoo, my husband is obsessed with Seth Godin...interesting...

  2. I guess that's sinful... Most of the time I don't need to be right, but I do want to be understood, even if I'm wrong. There are so many angry people in the world, Christians included.

  3. some people are sensitive and will just take things wrong.

there is no winning in this situation. The internet is faceless (even on facebook tee-hee) and so people are apt to be ruder and more blunt than they would ever be in person. There is no accountability for what people say.

  4. Oh and I was not meaning you were being sinful, by the way. Totally talking about myself there. haha.

Just thought I'd mention it, you know, in case.

    Stupid internet.

  5. Thanks, Flo. I knew. Seriously, if you were having a face-to-face conversation with someone, you totally wouldn't have to clarify something like that. I sometimes wish it wasn't so much a part of our culture now to communicate over the internet....("She ironically wrote on her blog...")

Christina - there is truly no winning and I wish there was. Oh well. I really should just let it go more quickly than I do.
