I couldn't resist this one...
My cousin Chad works for Guitar Hero. He's actually the one who programs the jewels to match the music, as well as the light shows in the background. I grew up playing with this kid. It cracks me up to watch this, and this. (He's the guitar player in both)

Down Day
I'm having a bit of a rough day...actually, if I'm honest, it's been a tough past month.
We're feeling the gas and food increases around here. We're seriously considering having Nick take another part time job to help out. That would probably put him at 65-70 hours per week. All of the business opportunities we're working on are growing, they're just not growing quite fast enough. Our other option is for me to get a job, and we don't feel like that's the right thing to do.
Long story, but I have a foot issue (not athlete's foot) that is incredibly painful, and that has been keeping me off my feet as much as I can get away with it. I think we're finally going to bite the bullet and have me go to the doctor about it. More money. Sigh.
Because I've been off my feet a lot, my house is a mess. It's pretty bad, folks. Hard to not get discouraged about it actually.
I haven't written much real content here recently, simply because I don't have much to say. I am seeking God for strength. I am reading John Bevere's Drawing Near. I am working on taking every thought captive. I am taking naps several times a week while the girls nap. I am actually exercising consistently for the first time in my life. I'm faithfully doing the things I feel God has called me to. I'm saying no to anything new.
But I'm tired.
We had a great, fun trip this weekend that we've been planning for months. The only problem with vacations is the coming home part...
I'm ready for things to ease up a little.

Have you seen Jott yet? Call a toll-free number, leave a message, and it transcribes it and emails it to you or anyone else you have on your contacts. You can even send it to Blogger, Remember the Milk, or a huge list of other stuff.
Yes, I'm a geek. You know you've left yourself voicemails so you don't forget something...
We had a consultation with another potential Maeve client last night. She wants a beautiful white mermaid strapless gown with a long black sash that ties in back. Emily is sketching it for us tonight. Maybe I'll post it tomorrow. We also have a first fitting with Renee on Saturday. We're excited!
My kids just got up. That was NOT a nap.
Got our produce delivery today. We pulled it out of the box and set it all over the table:
This was $38 worth. How much are we willing to bet on us actually eating all of this before it goes bad? I'm pretty determined. Wagers?
Hannah took this one:
We're off to gramma's house...

Random
Do you ever have so much to say that you don't know where to start?
I shall list...
I shall list...
- I'm trying not to carry the load of the many, many people I know whose marriages are struggling. Guys, we HAVE to be connected in deep relationships with people who can help us through the tough times. In the words of Toy Story, if you don't have one, GET one!
- We got Hannah a swing set off Craig's List for her birthday. Now to find a time (around the giant snow storm headed this way) to get it set up.
- I'm tired. I knew I would crash at some point, with everything going on. This is that point. I don't wanna do anything.
- I got to play for worship with other people for the first time in...3 years?...yesterday. It was so fun. And because it was a prayer meeting, we played for an hour and a half. Nice. I could get back in shape really fast playing that much! Two of my favorite things - time with God AND music together makes for a nearly perfect afternoon.
- My temporary crown hurts. I was supposed to get the real one put on last week and because of everything my appointment is now next Wednesday. Hope I last that long.
- My sister and I were supposed to go fabric shopping in Denver today and I flaked out on her. You'd think they'd have good fabric stores here. I hate feeling flaky. Sometimes I set very high expectations and then have to back out. I should quit doing that and say no instead. I would feel much better about it.
- Today is the first day all week the girls did not fight nap time. They refused to nap at all on Monday. That was not a good day. I'm very thankful for the current quiet. And Dave Matthews playing on Pandora. :)
- If you are not female, you don't want to click here, trust me. I want one of these.
- Off to watch American Idol on DVR. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.

Nothing Important
I have no motivation today whatsoever.
We have a friend from ORU coming to town today. He's bringing his girlfriend along. He's staying with us and she's staying at my parents about 10 minutes away. What she doesn't know is that tomorrow morning he's taking her hiking and he's going to propose. Tee hee.
In spite of the fact that I'm looking forward to seeing them, I have absolutely no motivation to straighten my house today. Nor do I want to get myself ready. Nor do I want to try to keep the girls happy at a restaurant while we try to socialize. These kinds of visits are not what they were when we were child-less, and I don't expect child-less people to fully understand what they require of us. No offense intended to the child-less out there... I guess I'm just kinda tired and I haven't felt very good this week.
My parents are taking my youngest sister to California on Thursday for Spring Break. I wish we could go. My 19 year old brother just got his first job. He starts Monday. He is a computer whiz, and will be making more money than he will know what to do with, especially since he still lives at home. I'm so excited for him. He's the nicest guy.
We went to choir last night, and I bought a cd from the wife of my former boss when I worked as a worship ministry secretary. They now go to our church, and their son (who was about 7 when I worked for them) just put together this little demo cd with his friend. I'm really impressed! There's nothing there yet, but their website will be here. They did all the singing and played all the instruments themselves.
The weeks have been flying by. I can't believe it's Good Friday and Easter is this weekend. I wish there was a way to get the message of this week deeper into my heart. I feel like I've heard it so many times that it fails to have the impact I still want it to have. I used to love being involved in the huge Easter production at church, because after the 50th time through the story, it actually started to get in. That day will come again.
Life seems...complicated lately. We've been talking about our long-term goals around here. This raises more questions than it brings answers.
I finally did it - I weaned Audrey last week. Almost immediately I have no appetite whatsoever. This amazes me, and further underlines how many calories it takes to do that.
Guess I'll go do something productive.

I have nothing much to say this week. Honestly, I've been a little down. Sometimes it begins to look like the things you wish would change about your life will never change and there's nothing you can do about it. These things being debt, the fact that I never exercise and therefore have little/no energy, my messy house, etc.
That said, I have bullet points that are fun:
That said, I have bullet points that are fun:
- I'm reading about five new books, which include Convenant Marriage (we're reading this together), C.S. Lewis' The Seeing Eye, John Bevere's Honor's Reward, Better Than Beauty (from the discount shelves at B&N), Glenn Packiam's Butterfly in Brazil, and still working on Fight Like a Girl and QBQ.
- Recording tonight. Yay!
- It just quit snowing after dumping about 4 inches of heavy, wet spring snow on us this morning
- Audrey sings Veggie Tales, ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle, Calliou, and probably other songs I can't think of. Hilariously. Recognizably! Plus several worship songs.
- My little Hannah will be three next month. How did this happen?]
- Hannah got some gluten yesterday and although it's obvious that her stomach hurts, she seems emotionally okay so far. Thanks for the prayers, guys.
- I have a whole week off from teaching, between School of Worship being done with the module, and other students out of town this week.
- It's Friday. How did that happen?
- Josh gave me a new song to put on repeat. This song alone may change my mood.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Survey
From the Unsinkable Kristen, whose blog I stumbled across when I was bored one day. I like her sense of humor and attitude. :)

4. Have you ever had a garage sale?
Yes, we had one before we moved last summer.

I'd like to get one sometime...

Chicken of some kind along with brown rice and peas, probably.

Nick introduced himself to me the first day of school at ORU. I thought he was terribly friendly and a little bit dorky. :)
21. Where do you hurt?
Right in the middle of my back. I need an adjustment.
22. Has someone ever made you a Build-A-Bear?
Nick and I made one on a date once. Hannah loves it now.
23. What DVD is in your DVD player?
Little People. It is the worst thing you've ever seen, and Audrey requests it every day.
24. What's something fun you did today?
My day thus far has been uneventful. I should have done something fun.
26. Has your house ever been TPd?
Not mine.
27. What do you think of when you hear the word 'meow'?
My brother Nathan. He...never mind.
28. What are you listening to right now?
The fan we set up on the computer so it doesn't overheat and shut off. Anyone want to buy me a new laptop?
29. Drinkin?
Ice water.
30. What is your favorite aisle at Wal-Mart?
I'm quite fond of the cooking stuff.
31. When is your birthday?
June 4th. My cousin Lindsey's is the same day and so is Liz's.
32. What's the area code for your cell phone?
Why do you care?
33. Where did you buy the shirt you're wearing now?
Charlotte Russe. Amy picked it out for me. It was $6.
34. Is there anything hanging from your rear view mirror?
Not today.
35. How many states in the US have you been to?
I don't feel like figuring this out. Lots.
37. What are you going to do after this?
Teach piano for 2 hours.
38. Who was the last person you went shopping with?
We all went to Target Saturday night. We got diapers and sippy cups. Hannah was thrilled with this.
40. What about your favorite dessert?
Carrot Cake
41. What is something you need to go shopping for?
My stove needs a new burner for some reason. It quit working. I need breakfast stuff. I have had the itch to clothes shop for weeks, but one must have clothes money if one is going to clothes shop. Difficulties...
42. Do you have the same name as one of your relatives?
No, but half of my generation is named Sara(h)
43. What kind of car do your siblings drive?
Another white Jetta (not kidding), a black XTerra, and a gray...SUV thingy.
44. Do you like pickles?
Not really. I'll eat one sweet pickle in a pinch.
45. What about olives?
Sure.
47. What is your favorite kind of juice?
Juice makes my blood sugar do weird things. I'm not into feeling shaky
48. Do you have any tan lines?
Not at this time
49. What hospital were you born in?
St. Jude
50. Do you remember the name of your kindergarten teacher?
My mother. :)

Ode to the Taco Bell guy
Long ago and far away, the incredible Josh played electric in a band I was in. He has crafted the funniest blog I have ever read. I laughed until I cried.

One of those days...
I woke up this morning to the sound of Hannah throwing up. No idea why she did that, and she hasn't done it again.
Yesterday was a crisis day. One of my brothers is going through some tough stuff and it's pretty hard on my family.
The Jetta won't start. It was -5 degrees this morning, so it might just be because of the cold...or maybe the battery is dead...or maybe something else. I could go out and try again since it is somewhat warmer now than it was a 6 this morning when Nick tried it, but I don't wanna. It's cold.
The cat is going nuts. He keeps attacking the girls all of a sudden. At this very moment, he is leaping three or four feet off the ground to get at the tree ornaments he "can't reach."
The house is a wreck - clean clothes, toys I have to clear out spaces for, and the cat threw litter all over the bathroom floor.
The girls cried until after 11pm last night. No idea why. Nick's theory was they could sense we were sad about my brother. But then they were up at 7:30. I'm tired.
The Christmas stuff we got, while very nice, has no place in our tiny house. I'm going to have to get rid of the old to make room for the new. This project feels daunting today, and there are piles everywhere that are driving me nuts.
On the other hand...
The girls are happily going down for naps right now, early, together.
I think I'll go take a shower and a nap!

Restless today
Somebody give me something fun to do.
My house is relatively clean. It needs to be vacuumed and as always I have laundry to put away. Oh, and I need to sweep up the cat litter that the cat threw all over the floor for the 50th time. I don't feel like doing any of this.
My kids are taking turns napping (they each slept 3 hours yesterday. Audrey was 11-2 and Hannah was 2-5), so I can't go anywhere unless I want cranky kids all night. I can make them nap at the same time if I work hard enough, but they inevitably wake each other up, and then I have cranky kids anyway.
I could have taken the girls to church for childcare and done something on my own, except Audrey's cough probably would have made somebody mad at me, even though there's no way she's contagious.
I have boxes of Christmas lights stacked in my kitchen. They're driving me nuts.
This is one of those lack of motivation days...

Things have been a little intense around here.
It all started several weeks ago, when Nick hurt his back throwing a football. It hurt worse and worse until it was shooting pain down his legs and I talked him into going to the chiropractor. They, of course, said he had a herniated disc, and to come back three times a week for the rest of his life, pretty much. Well, we're talking about $500 there, so we called Dr P, the naturopath, who is also a chiropractor. He uses the best parts of nutrition, chiro, acupuncture, herbs, with a pretty great sermon occasionally thrown in. Plus, he's a Christian so I don't have to worry about him getting spiritually weird.
Anyway, he gave Nick an adjustment, said his back probably went out related to the stress involved with moving, and then did some electric stimulation of his back muscles to help relax them and "reprogram" them to do what they're supposed to. "Don't do much for the next three days, and don't pick up the girls." Those were the orders.
While we were there, Hannah coughed, and he said, "that doesn't sound very good." I proceeded to talk to him about how the girls have been sick for two months, and his assessment was there's something in the new house that's bothering them.
Get an air purifier.
Aren't those like $400?
For the whole house they are, get a little one, keep it in their room at night and move it out during the day. And quit eating sugar.
Grrr...
That was Thursday night. Friday I started feeling pretty bad. By Friday night I had a fever of 101, and a headache so bad I couldn't get up. I told this part of the story already, except that Nick re-injured his back because he had no choice but to pick up the girls all day when I couldn't get out of bed Saturday.
Sunday and Monday, I was better but still coughing a ton, and the girls were coughing and had runny noses. I called my mom during the day yesterday and told her what Dr P said about the purifier, and she said, "I thought of that in the middle of the night and forgot to tell you!" Last night we carved money out of the budget for a small air purifier. Then we got home and Nick had fever. That was about all I could take. To my credit, instead of having a complete breakdown, I went to bed.
Nick is at work today, and doesn't feel too bad. Still too early to tell if the purifier is helping, but I have hope that it will since Dr P has rarely steered us wrong. But the girls and I are still fairly miserable, and Audrey is constipated today on top of it, if you want to know the truth. I gotta say, I'm pretty tired.

Grrr
I'm cranky today. I was cranky yesterday also.
I'm currently making soup. Cold day, warm soup, sounds good, right? Except that halfway into this new recipe, I realized there is NO WAY all of this is going to fit in the pan I have. After using a little less of everything, the pan is BRIMMING. Now it has to cook for an hour. I get really mad about stuff like this - mad that I didn't realize it wouldn't fit, mad that I don't have what I need... I really need to just get over it.
The girls have seemed harder than usual the past few days also. Audrey has officially entered toddlerdom, tantrums and all. Today on our way out of church she got so mad for so long that before it was over she had hit her mouth and her head from throwing her head around. I did everything I could to hang onto her, but as soon as I thought she was done she'd start again. Whew. And that's just ONE example from this week.
Date night did not happen this week because the girls were sick. Date night hasn't happened in two months. It's supposed to be every week. The girls' noses have been running since the beginning of time and we can't seem to shake it.
Do you ever wish you had a reset button? Like, none of these things would really bother me all that much if I didn't already feel kind of overstretched. I wish it was possible to just suddenly see everything from a fresh perspective.

A Book Meme
Marianne tagged me for this book meme. Hmmm... Hopefully I can find the books I have recently read. And incidentally, what's a "meme" and why is it called that anyway?
My currently reading list:

In Style, Real Simple, Cottage Living, Better Homes and Gardens magazines
Total number of books in my library:
I have no clue. I have two full bookcases, and another half of one with music books

Headlines
Nothing very useful to say today, feel free to skip this one. :)
-Unpacking is mostly done. Done meaning the boxes are out of the house (except for our bedroom). Now the garage is another matter altogether. But, my living room looks pretty today!
-I have potted flowers on the front deck/porch thingy. This makes me smile.
-Yesterday I figured out how to change the broken tail light and turn signal in the Jetta. Go me!
-Tonight we are going to choir. I am so very much looking forward to this.
-Anyone know how I can get my 1 year old to quit waking up at 3:30 every night? She STILL does this. I nurse her in my sleep and wake up with her kicking me or whacking my face a few hours later. I would just let her cry it out, except then she wakes up Hannah and they keep EACH OTHER up. Sigh.
-My parents get back from their trip in four days! Several times a day, I go through this with Hannah:
H: Where Mama? (I'm mommy, gramma is mama)
Me: She went bye bye on an airplane.
H: Where Papa?
Me: He went bye bye on an airplane.
H: Where Amy?
Me: She went bye bye on an airplane.
H: Where Nathan?
Me: He went bye bye on an airplane.
At this point she will ask where the kitty is (at gramma's house), where Disney and Bella (gramma's dogs) are, (they're at gramma's house), and then begins to go through Daddy, Holly and David, Ryan... Then sometimes we start all over with Gramma again. She misses everybody!
-I made rice crispies treats last night. Nick and I are addicted to these, I have to admit. Whole Foods has kosher (and gluten free!) marshmallows, and puffed rice made with brown rice. I know it's probably not much better for us, but it makes us feel better. We can finish the entire pan in two days between the two of us. It's bad.
-I'm playing the piano for a wedding on Saturday. Nice. Easy money! It's amazing what people happily pay for an hour of your time when you play well. I have been so glad, over and over again, that I did not quit piano lessons when I was 10.
-I got new makeup the other day. About 6 months ago, my body decided to outright rebel when I so much as touch anything with soy in it. Seriously. Eating it makes me sick as a dog, and I get an itchy rash on my elbows and knees. It is SO weird. Wearing makeup or lotion with it burns like fire and eventually makes my skin red and swollen. Therefore, my choices for cheap makeup are limited. (Read: nonexistent) However, I found Origins. It's not cheap, but it's not horribly expensive either, and they use very few nasty chemicals. Most of their stuff is soy free and paraben* free, and it smells SO good.
*I have decided to attempt to avoid parabens if I have the choice. The article I linked says nothing has been proven and I don't go overboard. I do however, want to make the best choices possible.
-Have I mentioned we're going to choir tonight?
OK, off to do something more productive.
